5 Homes for Sale in the Heart of Northeast Portland

Northeast Portland is a rich part of the city with a wide variety of diverse communities. Today we’ll be looking at a particular portion spanning parts of the Irvington, Alameda, and Grant Park neighborhoods. These are well-established neighborhoods filled with older, well-maintained homes and lots of greenery. That makes them pretty in demand! So you’d think it might be hard to find single family homes for sale – but think again.

To get this list rolling, we used a search for a particular zip code, 97212, that covers these particular neighborhoods. Searching for homes by zip code is a great way to narrow your search. (And get a better understanding of the city layout.) Our search feature allows you to search by zip, city, county, or even a particular school.

Since we were curious about this area’s famed larger homes, we added on a minimum of 2,000 square feet. And voila! Here you have the five largest homes for sale in the coveted 97212 zip code. Let’s check them out.

#1 – 2015 NE 37th Ave.

2015 NE 37th Ave.

First up we have this lovely Craftsman just steps from Grant Park, famous for its connection to the beloved children’s author Beverly Cleary. This is a quiet, tree-filled area, yet it’s also very close to amenities in the bordering Hollywood District.

This home is elegantly colorful both inside and out. Outside you’ll find a decently sized yard with mature landscaping. Inside there’s plenty to be seen as well. An unfinished basement, a finished attic, and detached garage all promise to make for plenty of storage. This property was being used as a rental up until this point, so it has a lot of potential as an income-generating property as well.

#2 – 4056 NE 7th Ave.

4056 NE 7TH AVE

This historic home is light and bright, and full of period charm. The lovely interior includes space for a home office in addition to the bedrooms. Outside, you’re looking at a large yard with a huge deck to enjoy those summer days that are on the way. And a separate finished space sits at the basement level complete with separate entry. Could potentially be rented out or used for extended family – up to you!

This one has a great location too – a bit further north than the others listed here, but close to Alberta street and its artsy, hip atmosphere.

#3 – 2434 NE 15th Ave.

2434 NE 15TH AVE

This must-see home is situated in the heart of Irvington. Irvington is a neighborhood that can be hard to classify. Its southern border is full of shops, bars, and restaurants that run the gamut when it comes to style. The norther half of the neighborhood, on the other hand, is filled with trees and elegant, established homes.

This would be one of those homes, for sure. Beautifully maintained, it welcomes you in at once with its warm exterior. Once inside you’ll be greeted by gorgeous statement wallpaper and a spacious layout. Beautiful hardwood floors, a wood-burning fireplace, and classic built-ins make this home immediately classy and inviting. This home also gets bonus points for its oversized, detached garage and its lovely patio looking out on a very private yard.

#4 – 3818 NE Alameda St.

3818 NE ALAMEDA ST

Now for something really special. Alameda Ridge is a famous natural feature in Portland, which years ago was built on because the views were so prized. So as you can imagine, snagging a piece of real estate on one of the most coveted strips in all of Portland won’t come cheap. But it will be worth it!

This Elizabethan classic has it all – from the hardwood floors up to the vaulted ceilings. Elegance is the name of the game here. Well, second only to those views. The main level opens up onto a huge terrace looking out over the city. Too rainy for you? Don’t worry, you’ll get views aplenty inside from the numerous bay windows. And the lower level opens out onto a nicely manicured and very private yard, complete with a covered patio. And with two garages and a bonus family room, you’re sure to have plenty of storage for toys of any kind.

#5 – 2934 NE 16th Ave.

2934 NE 16TH AVE

Finally, our big finish today – literally – is another Irvington gem. The curb appeal of this home is evident at first glance: a grand set of steps surrounding by lush foliage leading up to a huge front porch. And it doesn’t stop there. Step inside and take in the exquisitely crafted woodwork that greets you. Everything from the fireplace mantle to the exposed beams in the formal dining room screams stateliness and grace. Not everything is all period charm though – don’t miss the state-of-the-art kitchen, for one thing.

And it’s not just the interior bringing the A game. Out back you’ll find a large and luscious yard that can truly be described as an oasis. Two huge gardening plots beckon anyone with a green thumb. Relax and enjoy water feature on the stone patio, or take in the sun on the raised deck. All the while, towering trees surround the property and ensure peace and quiet.
