5 Portland Fixers with Huge Square Footage

Intrigued by the idea of taking on the project of a fixer upper? As we’ve mentioned before, one great thing about renovating an overdue home is that you can tailor the renovations to your own personal style, needs, and wishes. It’s a great way to ensure your dream home gets made to your specifications. Or, think of it as an investment property: rehabilitate to rent or flip. Whatever your end goal may be, our Smart Fixer List can keep you up to date on the best fixer homes that come on the market.

When searching for a fixer, though, you may find that you’re stumbling on a lot of smaller homes. That’s because homes in the lower price range are more likely to both need repairs and lack square footage. But what if you want to fix up a home that’s a little more spacious, either for rental purposes or to make more room for your household?

We’ve found five of the most exciting and most spacious Portland fixers for sale using our Vestor Filtersâ„¢. First, we checked out the Smart Fixer List. Then, we added on a minimum square footage of 2,000. The resulting homes are big, and come with big possibilities!

#1 – 411 SE 30th Pl.

411 SE 30TH PL

Let’s start out with one of the easiest “fixers” in town. This home made our Smart Fixer List because it could certainly use some upgrades – new cabinets, fixtures, etc. But the issues with this home are primarily cosmetic. Scroll through the photos and you’ll find some details that could use some smoothing over. But overall, the bones of this house are solid. Downstairs, the basement level is well lit, and has ADU potential. Upstairs, enjoy the gorgeous, original hardwood floors.

And you can’t beat the location! In one of Portland’s trendiest Southeast neighborhoods, this home will put you just steps from Laurelhurst Park and all the excitement of Stark and Burnside Streets.

#2 – 340 NE 108th Pl.

340 NE 108TH PL

Next we move further out from the city, into a quieter part of Portland but one still close to the amenities of the Gateway Center. This home is situated on a quiet street populated by conscientious neighbors. And you’ve got plenty to work with here, starting with the square footage. A huge basement could easily be transformed into an ADU or separate living space. An oversized, two car garage offers plenty of storage space for your hobbies. And a large, fenced-in yard is ripe for entertaining.

Inside, a wood-burning fireplace sits at the center of a home that’s awaiting your personal touches. Imagine restoring this Mid-Century ranch to its former period glory!

#3 – 5256 SE Flavel St.

5256 SE FLAVEL ST

You’ve likely got some work ahead of you with this one. While it’s got a good amount of square footage, much of that has to be taken up by the no less than seven bedrooms! But we’re pretty confident that anyone willing to bust out a wall or two could make this little diamond in the rough into a regular city oasis. A hop, skip, and a jump away from Eastmoreland, this home also boasts a fantastic location. Equidistant from Errol Heights Park and Brentwood Park, this neighborhood is quiet and homey, but close to city amenities.

And while there’s plenty to be done to achieve your vision, not everything needs fixing for this house. You’ll get the benefit of some newer essentials, from the furnace to the windows.

#4 – 2900 E Burnside St.

When it comes to location, our Smart Fixer List sure knows how to pick ’em. Close in on Burnside, this huge home also sits just blocks from Laurelhurst Park. And at 4,200 square feet, it’s by far the biggest house we’re listing here. This home waits to be restored to its original charm.

Historically, the owners of this home put it to use as a rental property. And with mixed-use zoning, four floors, two stairways, and two fireplaces, the possibilities here run the gamut. This is an older home that certainly needs a serious inspection, and potentially serious repairs. But the owners just dropped the price – again – by $36,000. So the ball is in the buyer’s court!

#5 – 15030 NW Cornelius Pass Rd.

15030 NW CORNELIUS PASS RD

Did none of these urban environments pique your curiosity? Then let’s finish on a more rural feel. Out in far Northwest Portland, out the outskirts of Forest Park, this home is a dream for anyone wanting a little urban farm. With nearly an acre of land, this property promises privacy and gardening galore. This home is a true fixer – it needs a real gutting. But anyone with the funds can think of it as a blank canvas awaiting your paint (literally). Picture yourself once the work’s all done, curled up in a forested home by the wood-burning fireplace.
